Description
Munich played a pivotal role in the history of the Third Reich and World War II: the Nazi Party was founded here in 1919-20 and maintained its headquarters in the city until 1945. It was here that Adolf Hitler and other key figures in the Nazi regime launched their political careers and aggressive racial and military programs. It was here that the first political opposition groups and undesirable forms of art were suppressed. 17 km from here, the first concentration camp was built in March 1933: the Dachau Lager. And it was here in Munich that the systematic persecution of the Jews began.
