The construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 brutally tore apart the urban fabric, forever separating families and friends, disrupting residents' lives, and preventing all forms of free movement. There is one place in Berlin where this violence was more visible and brutal: Bernauer Strasse. Here, the Wall and the border line ran right in front of the buildings on one side of the street. After the barriers were erected, many residents spontaneously decided to flee. Some were seriously injured, and the first victims of the border regime died here, on the sidewalk. Today, the entire street is a 1.4-kilometer complex memorial with various stations, centers, exhibitions, and original sections of the Wall. This tour is for those who want to understand the how and why of this violence and those who seek answers to many questions.
